Welcome Message

From Paul Malone, City Manager

The future of San Marcos is bright. What other city can boast an extensive park and trails system, high quality local jobs, colleges and a university, distinctive neighborhoods and commuter rail connections? Nevertheless, we still have work to do to ensure that San Marcos continues to thrive and provides a healthy, vibrant environment for future generations.

In Fall 2009, the City of San Marcos kicked off a comprehensive update of its General Plan with the assistance of an experienced consultant team. The General Plan establishes a framework for achieving our goals for the future. Topics addressed in the General Plan include land use and development, transportation, open spaces and resource conservation. In this process, the City will be paying special attention to our long-term strategies for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and environmental sustainability.

The City Council has established a comprehensive public participation program so that the General Plan reflects the goals of the community. This program includes a series of public workshops, a telephone survey and youth program, and this website with future interactive activities in addition to the General Plan Advisory Committee. The success of the General Plan Update truly rests on the active participation of all the different groups, neighborhoods and organizations in our community.

Please sign up for announcements and get involved in this process so you can be part of building the path for our future.
